Poetry

Self PortraitBrown eyes,  brown hair,  and a smile.  No, not a smile.  They always look  too fake, too  measured and posed.   
Glasses,  dark plastic frames,  and lipstick.  No, never lipstick.  Chapstick.  Only on Halloween  will there be makeup.   
Pale.  Always pale.  Rings so dark  they go from being  "tired"  to "blacked."  So pale.   
Sad?  No, not quite.  No corner-to-corner  grin, but those brown eyes  gleam  with their own  smile, of sorts.

You will undoubtedly call the feline  a graceful, natural born acrobat,  but allow me to introduce the red-  handed coward, always very afraid  and guilty, a small girl whom I adore:  Typhoon, the idiot cat. She spots string,   
only to run from a shadow, the string  a thing forgotten, an abandoned line  on the kitchen floor. Peering ‘round the door,  she crouches—pounces! and both her paws bat  simultaneously, causing the frayed  thread to win the fight. Typhoon blushes red

You Give MeYou give me  no scented perfume nor flowers  because I will sneeze;  no cakes nor cookies nor chocolates  because I will itch;  no glistening champagne nor deep red wine  because they will not mix well  with my medications; and  I was never fond of the taste anyway.   
You give me  no budded nor looped earrings  because I will lose them anyway;  no golden, silver, diamond ring  because my knuckles will ache;  no thinly chained nor tightly choked necklace  because already my medical tag  takes that place; and  I was never fond of jewellery anyway.  & You Give Me

Small VictoriesA week ago I learned why my thoughts ache.  Still no one knows a cause for my ill skin,  why when it’s cold my arms turn sickly red  defying what they say is “normal”, and  nobody seems to know why I shiver,  and with doubled fear I forget to breathe.   
Only with my lungs stinging do I breathe  again; I try rubbing away the ache  growing in my wrists again. I shiver  to think why flesh becomes scale-patterned skin—  a strange sight with unknown origins—and  pale white snakes below a dulled scarlet red.

CharredHe sits alone,  Inhales deeply,  And a then a thin strand  Of pale smoke escapes  Pale lips.   
The chatter is white noise  For both of us,  Something we share,  And I wonder if  We have anything else in common.   
The smell of tobacco  Stings my eyes and  My nose and  My throat  As I walk by him.   
He takes no notice of me,  Only stares at the ashen tip  Of his cigarette. Would he have noticed  Had I kept my gaze  Trained on him longer?

The Last October MidnightWhen bountiful, our goddess October  sadly, with certainty, approaches death  and gray clouds give way for her cousin Moon.  The star children dance to light the evening  and the horizon melts into midnight.  With fear the wind cries chillingly for blood.   
And yet, despite how the scene may chill blood,  we cherish the presence of October  and the cool winds she breathes into midnight.  Even falsified effigies of Death  are able to dispel cider’s evening  warmth as hands share kindly below the moon.
